Rita shares an awesome story of encouragement and how she made it through the storm of prejudice and being disowned by her family. She was in ministry early on - hearing the call on her life at the age of 12. She spent a summer as a Missionary in Indiana, she sang and traveled with a singing group from college, served as Church pianist at various Churches in Central Arkansas and served in Little Rock as a youth minister. Yet she found herself in trouble her junior year in college. She had started dating a young man whom she had been friends with. She met him at college and he happened to be black. At first she really didn't think about how her parents would feel because they were just friends. But eventually she found herself in over her head and then pregnant. Because of the racial issue the relationship was over before the baby was born. First she considered abortion and then adoption but God intervened. Even though her parents gave her a choice between her and she had even signed the adoption papers after her daughter's birth. She finally prayed and God promised her victory if she kept the baby and raised her to be a Godly woman. That child, Promise Victoria, is now a Godly young woman with her own minsitry. She's also married and expecting her first child in 2007. This is just the first of many trials. She's been married and divorced, in abusive relationships. But finally God blessed her with a marriage to a man with his own story of deliverance and call. |
